The middle and high level imported NC machines in 1980s have been seriously aged, frequently failed and even inoperative long time ago. The rebuilding of such machines will cost only hundreds of thousands of RMB. And the machines rebuilt can meet the machining requirements including high accuracy, high speed and reliability. Therefore the rebuilding of NC machines will generate significant economic benefit and social benefit.As a military enterprise with a long history, Harbin Aviation Group will have more and more machines required to be rebuilt. The rebuilding of machines performed by some system manufacturers will cost much higher and their service quality is not good. Therefore we have carried out some rebuilding of NC machines by ourselves and accumulated a certain experiences.The paper, using the rebuilding of HC630 horizontal machining center as an example, describes the rebuilding process including the determination of rebuilding program, restoring of mechanical accuracy, installation and commissioning, comprehensive testing and measuring with laser interferometer and ball arm instrument, and optimizing of parameters. The mathematic model has been established and its characteristics have been analyzed through analyzing the principle of servo driving unit, thus providing theoretical basis for machine commissioning.
