Montmorillonite, the primary constituent of bentonite, is a clay mineral with expandable layer structure. Isomorphous subsitution of montmorillonite results in a net permanent charge, therefore it has the reversible cation exchange capability and very plastic properties. Mesoporous pillared montmorillonite can be prepare by introducing gallery templates, such as hydroxyed inorganic metal cations, simple metal cation ions, quaternary ammonium catios. Thus formed pillared-montmorillonites have improved capabilities, such as BET, sorption property, surface acidity and thermal stability. Montmorillonite interlayer compounds are a new family of functional materials, and can be used widely as catalysts carriers, and selectiveadsorbents potentially, as well as in the fields of nanocomposite materials. In the paper, we use Ca-bentonite as material, after modifying it with sodium compounds, synthesizing a series of montmorillonite interlayer compounds by traditional aquo-phase methods, respectively, involving inorganic, organic and inorganic-organic interlayer compounds. With the help of experimental technique, such as X-ray diffraction(XRD)analysis, X-ray fluorescence (XRFS)analysis, differential scanning calorimetry(TG-DSC)analysis, differential thermal analysis(DTA), Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)spectra and specific surface areas determinatin, et al., we investigated systematically the materials synthesization. The main contents of this paper are included as following:Firstly, we tested the main physical property of Ca-bentonite, including the cation exchange capacity(CEC), the expanded volume and the pengrun volue, modified Ca-bentonite with sodium compounds, and then, we investigated systematically the effect of the type and dosage of modifying reagents, the suspension concentration and the stirred time on the property indexes of materials. Testing the physical property of modified bentonite and compering with Ca-bentonite material. The results showed that the modified materials are more significantly than the original materials. Taking the sodium modified bentonite as the matrices, we synthesized respectively Al-pillared interlayer montmorillonite with traditional aquo-phase method. In this experiment, the conditions of...
