Coal resources are one of the most important energy resources. The exploiting of coal resources on a large scale can bring about not only financial and social interests, but also a lot of loss to the environment and people's lives. Mining underground and sinking area on the surface of the ground due to mining underground will influence the production and life of the local people, and undermine the continual development of the local economy. It can even affect the relationship between the mines and the local people, thus becoming unstable factors of our society. This paper is based on a lot of foreign and domestic references about exploring underground mining areas and theories on sinking areas due to mining. It analyzes and studies carefully the stress changes, movement distortion of the earth's surface of the terrain above the sinking areas, characteristics of the surface shape, characteristics of hydrology, characteristics of underground electrology and characteristics of radioactivity.
