Solid complexes of rare earth perchlorate with naphthyl- naphthalinesulphinylpropyl sulfoxide (dinaphthyl disulfoxide, L) and phenyl- benzenesulphinylpropyl sulfoxide (diphenyl disulfoxide, L') have been synthesized and characterized. By elemental analysis, coordination titration and TGA-DTA studies, the composition of the complexes were suggested as RE2(ClO4)6.(L)5.nH2O(RE= La, Pr, Nd, Eu, Tb, Dy, Ho,Tm, Yb, Y) (n = 0-8) and RE2(ClO4)6.(L')7(RE= La, Eu, Tb).IR spectra, 1HNMR studies indicated that four dinaphthyl disulfoxides(L) bonded with RE3+ ions by the two oxygen atoms in each disulfinyl group which coordinate as a chelate bidentate group, while another one bonded with two RE3+ ions by the two oxygen atoms in disulfinyl group which coordinate as a bridging group. The Molar conductivities in DMSO solution indicate that four inorganic anions ClO4- are coordinated with RE3+and other is not. Phosphorescent spectra of ligand(L) show that triplet state of ligand(L) is matching with 5D0 energy of Eu3+ and ligand(L) can transfer energy to Eu3+ but is not matching with 5D4 energy of Tb3+ . Fluorescence spectrum of Tb3+ complex show that ligand and ClO4- have sensitized the fluorescence of Tb3+ by descending the symmetry of Tb3+ in complex. In the complexes of rare earth perchlorate with diphenyl disulfoxide, six diphenyl...
