With the development of industrialization and expansion of population, human being is facing a serious and urgent problem of water pollution and water scarcity. The present serious water crisis situation has been closely investigated at home and abroad. Strengthening the administration of freshwater resources, saving water and reducing the water pollution are some effective measures approved widely to solve this crisis. Water reuse is a new way to exploit water resource. It has great significance to study intermediate water treatment technique that tally with the Chinese specific situation. Biological aerated filter (BAF) plays an important role in the intermediate water treatment technique and has been widely applied. With the improvement of the reclaimed water standard for nitrogen removal, it can provide a huge application field and market for the usage of BAF system in domestic wastewater treatment. In this paper, the current situation of development and application of BAF systems and its principle of denitrification was expound roundly. Combined with the practical application of water reuse project, BAF simultaneous nitrification and denitrification process was compared with pre-denitrification process. And the nitrogen removal efficiency in BAF process under different hydraulic loading and gas-water ratio (GWR) was observed. The operational condition of simultaneous nitrification and denitrification in BAF process was optimized. BAF system for denitrification technology in domestic wastewater treatment and the processing parameters were exploited to guide engineering design and debugging. For the experiment results analysis, it was concluded that:...
