Polyesters, alkyd resins and polyurethanes, which can be synthesized by C4-C6 poloyls derived from sorbitol, were employed in paints, powder coatings and other construction materials extensively. Compared with the traditional materials of small diols including glycol and propylene glycols which entirely come from oil currently, the former contributes the product to better properties, and it is also true when compared with hexitols. Besides, as the initial material, sorbitol is a kind of renewable resource and can be got directly from biomass. It follows that C4-C6 poloyls has overwhelming advantages in synthesis of polyesters, alkyd resins.CuO-ZnO was selected as the catalyst for sorbitol hydrogenolysis. The effect of different preparation methods and conditions of catalysts on its activity had been widely investigated, and it was followed by investigating the affection of reaction condition on the results of sorbitol hydrogenolysis.Catalysts were prepared by co-precipitation method, solid phase grinding method and citric acid sol-gel method respectively. It was found that the preparation method may exert highly affections on mutual dissolvability between the components of CuO and ZnO, and co-precipitation method may lead to a fine crystallinity, then the mechanism of sorbitol hydrogenolysis reaction has been discussed as well.A series of preparation conditions such as Cu/Zn ratio, precipitation temperature, precipitation types, precipitation agents and calcination temperature were investigated. It was revealed that CuO was active component and the function of ZnO was mainly to disperse CuO as well as the absorption and dissociation of hydrogen, and the optimal activity was gained when the Cu/Zn ratio was 1/1. Then, it was showed that the precipitation temperature and precipitation types might affect the formation of...
