According to the well properties of mixed liquid crystals , two kinds of liquid crystal monomers were designed and synthesized and then added to mixed liquid crystals .Meanwhile, based on liquid crystal basical theory and the theory-experience of montmorillonite material. We came up with the study of liquid crystal/organophilic montmorillonite intercalative meterial, hoping to settle down some problems of liquid crystal materials in application. Thus four intercalative compositions were designed and synthesized . The main points of this dissertation consist of four parts as follows.Part one , the synthesis and studies of performance two liquid crystal monomers .We synthesized 4-(2-(4-propylcyclohexyl)ethyl)benzonitrile and 4-cyano-3-fluorophenyl 4-(4-alkylcyclohexyl)benzoate. The structure of the target molecules and their intermediates were characterized by FTIR, ~1HNMR and EA (elementary analysis); their properties of liquid crystals were characterized by differential scanning calorimeter(DSC), polarized optical microscope (POM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD). They turned out to be nematic liquid crystals.Part two , the effect of liquid crystal monomers on mixed liquid crystal's properties .Utilizing thirties kinds of liquid crystal monomers and a chiral addition agent (R811) in our labs , we got five mixed liquid crystal compositions with different properties. After that, the 4-(2-(4-propyl -cyclohexyl)ethyl) benzonitrile and 4-cyano-3-fluorophenyl 4-(4-alkyl -cyclohexyDbenzoate were confected .Then , the properties were checked by liquid crystal parameter determinator , refractometer .capillary viscometry and resistance meter.
