The campaign abilities of tank in battlefield were attacked and even destroyed more and more seriously because of extensive applications and developments from the Infrared technology, especially the thermal-imaging technique. So the investigations on camouflage become more and more urgent as one of important components of control technique on infrared characteristic signal gave off by tank. In this paper, utilizing the tail waste heat of tank as the heat source, the key technical problems in Infrared camouflage of tank were investigated with the technique of thermoelectric conversion by combining theoretical analyses with experimental researches.At first, the characteristic of the electricity generation of the existing thermoelectric conversion device was studied by experiment, then we designed our thermoelectric conversion system based on devices as many as possible arranged within the tail pipe under the particular running condition, electricity power generated from our thermoelectric system was measured with the experimental system, also the rationality of our design project was verified by experiment results. The maximum output power at the unit area was established as the principle to optimize the physical dimension of the device. At last, utilizing the designed thermoelectric system and the semi-conductor cooling device, cooling effect near the tank tail pipe was demonstrated, and the Infrared camouflage effect was evaluated based on the result of the reduction of the temperature. Excellent camouflage effect can be achieved with our design thermoelectric conversion technique, so it is feasible to apply the thermoelectric conversion technique on the Infrared camouflage.
