The method of cold rolling spline is an advanced technique of manufacture. According to the plasticity of metal material at room temperature, spline is shaped after the metal workpiece was struck by the high speed roller. Comparing with the existing processing method of the spline shaft, this method not only is an efficient machining technique, but also is little consumable material technique. Also the surface texture and surface quality of spline shaft are improved greatly. But because of the elasticity recovery of metal in rolling manufacturing procedure, the gear form and precision of the spline are influenced. To find the size change relation of the workpiece in rolling manufacturing procedure, and describe metal flowing rule exactly, and study metal formed mechanics, it is need to analyze and simulate the manufacturing procedure in finite element technique.Base on the basic theory of elastic-plastic mechanics, elastic-plasticity correction in theory for the forming process of the spline shaft was studied. According to the basic principle of three dimensional rigid-plastic finite element method, the present pivotal technique in finite element analysis in metal bulk forming was discussed. The application of large general-purpose finite element software MARC was probed. The manufacturing procedure of the spline shaft was simulated in MARC.
