Cation-Polyacrylamide (CPAM) is a ramification of Polyacrylamide, and a cationic rnacromolecule flocculant of excellent effect to deal with waste water. Because of the peculiar pendant cgain texture and high density charge, it is s uitable for dealing with waste water which involves finegranular suspended matter, organics and colloid etc. Generally speaking, cation-polyacrylamide is synthesized by modification initiation method in China, but CPAM obtained by this method is of low cation degree and complex technics. CPAM synthesized by ultraviolet photo-initiation method, is of high quality, good water-solubility, low cost, property of pollution free, simple experiment condition, low investment It is easy to control operational process and realize industrialized production.As can be seen from synthetic experiment of single factor and orthogonal test of multi factors, technological parameters such as types of light source, types and dosage of photo-initiator, types of cationic monomer, PH of polymeric, mol proportioning of monomers, bulk concentration of monomers and temperature, have an effect on performance of copolymer. As shown from experiment result, the performance of Cation-polyacrylamide (CPAM) sample, synthesized by ultraviolet photo-initiation method, with the light of ultraviolet lamp (GGZ1000 tubular ultraviolet radiation high voltage mercury lamp), monomers of 60% dimethyl dially ammonium chloride (DMDAAC) and 26% acrylamide (AM), photo-initiator dosage of 15.40×10~-3ml/L, monomers mol proportioning of n(DMDAAC):n(AM)=1:6, monomers bulk concentration of 20%, polymeric of PH=5~7 and temperature of 55℃~65℃, is best of all. Intrinsic viscosity number of CPAM is up to 769.2ml/g, and cation degree is up to 13.6%.Structure analysis of CPAM with infrared spectrum and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum testifies that CPAM sample synthesized by ultraviolet photo-initiation method is representative cationic copolymer, meaning that cationic monomer and acrylamide monomer react into copolymer.As can be seen from flocculation test of CPAM on coal slurry, intrinsic viscosity number, cation degree and medical dosage of CP AM have obvious effect on flocculating performance. As shown from result in experiment, as to 40g/L of concn for coal slurry of Wangfenggang, flocculating performance of CPAM is the best, transmittance is up to 93%, when intrinsic viscosity number is 510.0~575.2ml/g, cation degree is 8.6%, medical dosage is 2~4g/m~3. Intrinsic viscosity number of CPAM affects flocculation greatly. The higher intrinsic viscosity number is, thebetter flocculating performance is. As to 60g/L of concn for coal slurry of Wangfenggang, flocculating performance of CPAM is the best, transmittance is up to 98%, when cation degree is 8.35%~8.89%, intrinsic viscosity number is 765.7ml/g, medical dosage is 2~4g/m3. Different types of PAM have different flocculating effect. As shown from test data, flocculating performance of CPAM is superior to PHP and PAM, especially to deal with difficultly settled coal slurry, which involves plentiful finegranular and kaoline, flocculating performance of CPAM is best of all.
