Automatic feed-in-plate control on wide and thick plate mills is a inherent bottle-neck problem of wide and thick plate production, and this issue is no still effective solution. By means of research in-depth of condition of production site, the paper puts forward the solution based on digital image processing.Firstly, how to implement the full automatic rolling control on wide and thick plate mills in tandem was introduced. Comparing the manual control mode with full automatic control mode in plate rolling process, the key points to implement the full automatic rolling control were summarized.Then, Based on the current manual control mode of wide and thick plate, an integrate monitor-and-control system is developed in consider of product technology, electric and machine equipments working characteristic. The whole system uses a master computer as the core and forms angle of steel plate monitor-and-control system. A 51 SCM is responsible for driving field actuating mechanism, adjusting angle of plate. When the system works, image collection unit collects real-time image information of plate on rolling production line, and the master computer dispose and identify the collected data. The communication between Single-chip microcomputer and master computer adopts the way of 485 bus. By means of 485, the master computer transmit orders to the 51 SCM with the form of character information. According to orders of PC, the 51 SCM outputs relevant driving signal on its I/O pins and control operation of actuating mechanism.Against condition of production site, the subject develops the relevant software, and utilizes it to dispose the plate images of production site, and gets the satisfied result.
