Ion mobility spectrometry is a very fast, sensitive and portable detection apparatus. The method was mostly used in the military and forensic area, for example, the detection of warfare agents, explosives, and drugs. Ion mobility spectrometer has the potential for miniaturization and easy operation. The main research in this paper is ion mobility spectrometry with photo ionization source. The VUV-ion mobility spectrometer has no radioactive pollutants. Most of the volatile organic compounds and semi-volatile organic compounds could be ionized by the 10.6eV low-pressure gas discharge lamp. The design of ionization source was benefit to the VUV-lamp and increasing ionization efficiency. The key part of the apparatus is ion-gate. The ion-gate made in our lab is inexpensive and easy to be manufactured. Take only half hour to complete and the gate has a 0.75mm grid spacing. Meanwhile, the influence of the voltage on the ion gate was studied. The drift tube was easily machined and assembled. The influence of the voltage that was on the drift tube to the ion mobility spectrometry was studied. The principle of design and operating ion mobility spectrometer has been mastered. Traditionally IMS has been considered a low-resolving technique with resolution no more than 30. The resolution was 26 in our homemade IMS.Some theory research in the field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometry was made. The conclusion in our theory was well committed by...
