Ring-opening metathesis polymerization(ROMP) is one of the most important part in the field of polymer synthesis. By this method we can synthesize the polymers which is hard to get by other method, and we can get some special materials and resins via ROMP. So it has broad application foreground. Besides, the synthesis of new materials and functional polymers by ROMP has become the most active part in the field of the research of ROMP. Consequently, we decide to take research of living ring-opening metathesis polymerization, using Ruthenium carbine catalyst to synthesize new functional polymers.Ionic liquids as a new kind of green solvent ,has been taken great interests by more and more researchers. Combining ionic liquids with polymer materials, using them to synthesize new polymer materials with special functions, the research of this aspect is on the underway period, only a few of research groups are doing research on this fields, their directions are mainly to the research of polyelectrolyte and polymeric catalyst. But from the research results , the foreground of this aspect is very brilliant. The research of this field must be taken more and more regards.In this paper, first, we have designed and synthesized the monomer which based on imidazolium ionic liquids, then by the methods of HNMR, CNMR, and IR, have proved that they have the correct structures we want.ROMP of the norbornyl macromonomers initiated by the first and the second generation of Grubbs catalyst.Influence of polymerization conditions was investigated. In comparison with other catalyst system , this catalyst not only leads to high polymer yield but also low PDI.ROMP of the norbornyl macromonomers initiated by Grubbs catalyst, shows the characteristics of living polymerization. And the values of MW detected in good accordance with that of the calculated, both the variation of monomer conversion with time and MW of the product polymer with monomer conversion show liner relationship.
