The purpose of this thesis is to expand the application of UV-assisted surface modification approach. Cerous ion is first used as photo- catalytic initiator for initiating surface modification due to its photosensitivity. Saturated small molecules such as glycerine, triethanolamine, saturated water-soluble macromolecules including corn starch and polyvinyl alcohol, and vinyl monomer are employed as modifiers for polymeric material surface. At the same time, BP is also used to initiate CPP surface functionaliaztion with corn starch.X-ray electron photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra indicated that ketoses (D-fructose, L-sorbose) and aldoses (D-glucose, D-galactose) have been successfully immobilized onto BOPP surface with Ce3+ as initiator under acidic condition. Oxygen atomic concentration of ketose modified BOPP surface (21%) is more than that of aldose modified BOPP surface (11%), and a more hydrophilic surface than aldose modified BOPP. Their water contact angle are 47° and 60°, respectively. Water contact angle (CA) is used to characterize the effect of experimental factors on surface modification. For...
