Electrochemical double-layer capacitor (EDLC) is a new electrical storage device, which has higher capacitance and energy density than conventional capacitors and higher power density than rechargable batteries. It possesses a promising potential applications in many fields. How to improve the capacitance is one of the key research directions in EDLC. In this dissertation, phenol-formaldehyde resin was chosen as the main carbon precursor, and Ni(C2H3O2),carbon black and thermal decomposed polymers such as PEG, PVB, PMMA were chosen as adulterants in order to modify the PF resin and improve the electrochemical performance of PF-based carbon for EDLC. The blending resins were carbonized in N2 atmosphere and activated with H2O vapor. Surface and electrochemical characteristics of derived carbons or activated carbons, especially the special capacitance, were investigated.Elementary Ni particles have been found in the activated carbons from the blending of Ni (C2H3O2) and PF resin. Activated carbons with Ni have higher special capacitance because of the presence of fmadaic...
