It is significant to detect defect in multilayered metal structures of aircraft. Pulsed eddy current(PEC) nondestructive testing is a new kind of technology developed in recent years, it is currently the subject of widespread interest because of its key potential applications for detection and quantitative measurement of subsurface defect in multilayered metal structures. In this paper, the status and the development home and abroad of the PEC technology are illustrated. Based on the function principle and theory foundation of PEC, A testing system of the hardware experiment platform and the software analysis platform is built up. And then the parameter of sensor, the frequency, scale, voltage of the pulse is optimized, and the optimization working point of the system is presented. In order to eliminate the noise and extract the feature, the detecting signal is analyzed and processed by means of time domain, frequency domain and wavelet. According to the characteristics of the detecting signal, the identification and quantitative measurement of corrosion defect is accomplished. The conclusion is validated by further experiments, and the results of the tests are in agreement with the theory on the whole. Finally, the conclusion of this paper is given and the suggestion for further research is provided.
