Quenching is a process in which a metal or alloy is immersed in quenching fluid immediately after heated to a high temperature. Through such an age old processing technique the structure of the material can be reconstructed and the performance also can be enhanced.Research on quenching process has been a hot topic in manufacturing all the time. With the ever progress in computer technology, numerical computing is being improved constantly and is being applied to many areas. Since the seventies of the last century, with development and implement of the computer and heat treating technology, research work has extensively started on the numerical simulation of quenching process worldwide. And great achievement has been made in this area.Quenching is a complicated process involving many aspects. In the present thesis the focus is on the quenchant flow and solid-liquid conjugate heat transfer in quenching process. A two-phase flow governing equation set based on the basic three conservation laws was derived and the Raynold average form was also presented. Discussions were made of the boundary and initial conditions. Due to the limited computation resource and time, a simplified interface reaction was used based on the theoretical analysis. A coupled solution of the energy equation of the heat conduction in the metal and phase change heat transfer of quenchant, the conjugate heat transfer, is used in the present modeling. The phase change term in the mass conservation equation is closed by the application of an adequate correlation. A commercial CFD software was used as the starting point and user defined functions...
