The main impurity in o-toluic acid's production is the o-phthalic acid. It not only pollutes environment and also waste resource. The fundamental research was carried out in this paper to find a way of resource utilization of the solid waste from domestic o-toluic acid factories. The technology of solvent dissolving, crystallizing and separating is the first choice for solid waste recovering and resource regeneration. Therefore, based on the principle of the dissolution in the same material structure, the better solvents were preliminarily decided through pre-experiment, As the basis of solid waste disposal, the solubility values are necessary. However, only the solubility data of o-phthalic acid -water system which determined by literature and fewer data point in other solvents can be accessible. For practical need, o-phthalic acid in chosen solvents must be measured systematically.There are two kind of method to measure solubility in common use, and that is the analytic and dynamic methods. In recent years, the laser monitoring dynamic method warm-up and this method need a person to observe in order to decide the equilibrium point, which is inconvenience. So the laser monitoring apparatus is designed to carry a light signal receptor which can convert light signal into electrical signal. The converted electrical signal is received by a computer through communication cable. The computer controls the rate of raising temperature and judges the solid-liquid phase equilibrium point through collected signals. To check the reliability of this apparatus, the solubility data of o-phthalic acid in water measured by literature were used, and the result is satisfactory. Through this technology the solubility values of o-phthalic acid in water, alcohol, ethylene glycol, ethyl acetate, methanol, acetic acid, acetone, n-butyl acetate were obtained in wider temperature range.The experimental data of 144 data points in 8 systems were correlated by the two parameter equation based on molecule thermodynamics model and compared with the back-calculated values, the total mean relative deviation is 2.63%. Correlated with the three parameter equation put forward by Apelblat et al, the total mean relative deviation is 1.38 % , better than two parameter equation.
