Titanium and its alloys are advanced structural materials with high specific strength and superb corrosion resistance. They are widely used in fields of aviation, navigation, electronic industry, chemical engineering and civilian goods. However, the deficiencies of titanium are obvious as well, such as insufficient wear resistance, severe oxidation at high temperature and burning under certain critical conditions. Surface modification is a feasible solution to those problems, and therefore, it has become the focus of intensive studies. Currently, various surface technologies are employed to improve surface properties of titanium alloys, majority of them are coating technologies. A prominent weakness of coating is the low bond strength with substrate, which is often the reason of early failure as cracking or peel-off occurs, especially when impact or fatigue loading are present. The modification layer prepared with double glow plasma surface alloying process is superior to coatings...
