Shendong coalfield, which is rich in reserves and superior in coal quality, is one of the large scale and importantly developed one in our country. Our country has decided to construct a hydro-liquefaction demonstration plant at Shengdong coal field. One of the significant characteristics of Shengdong coal is its high and unstable inertinite content. This will affect the selection and reactivity of hydro-liquefaction coal, process and operation conditions. So " hydro-liquefaction behaviour of Shendong coal macerals " is studied in this paper. The research focuses on carve samples, "pure" macerals and hand picked samples. Systemic analysis such as petrography, coal property and structure, especially the maximum reflectance distributions of all macerals has been done on those samples. Sampling and analysising lay the solid foundation for scientific and reasonable conclusions.Autoclave experiments are the chief measure of this research. Optimal reaction temperatures are derived: 470℃ for inertinite content above 70%; 465℃ for inertinite content at 60%~70%; 460℃ for inertinite content at 52%~60%; 455℃ for inertinite content at 45%~52%; 450℃ for inertinite content below 45%. The samples are hydro-liquefied at optimal reaction temperatures. Experiments indicated that high inertinite content coals can obtain relatively high oil yield if selecting appropriate reaction conditions, especially optimal temperature. But, if the inertinite content above 70%, oil yield is relatively low. Macerals are divided into active group, transition group, hypo-transition group and inert group based on reflectance of macerals, and " reflectance distribution Trapeze chart of maceral reactivity at different temperature " is worked out. Reflectance of transition group ranges from 0.90% to 1.15% at 450℃, semifusinite has relatively high reactivity, and belongs to transition group. Coals with inertinite content below 50% have obvious synergism between the individual macerals, microlithotype is one of the most important matter.Residues of PSU 0.1t/d unit are analyzed and researched by means of microscopy.
