The study on nonlinear optical materials is the key to make photonics into reality. The research of third-order nonlinear optical organic material is one of the hot topics in the functional materials.Based on the analysis and evaluation of bibliographer, the third-ordernonlinear optical effect of the nonlinear optical materials were introduced. The relationship between structures and optical properties of seven kinds of third-order nonlinear optical organic materials is reviewed. The parameters and measure techniques of third-order nonlinear optical properties of materials were described. According to the principle of molecular design, a series of 10 organic color materials with the structure ofbenzothianthrene, bisazoanthraquinone, thiadiazolazo were designed for organic third-order nonlinear optical materials.Two benzothianthrene materials, 5,7,12,14-tetraoxodibenzo[b,i]-thianthrene and 5,7,9,14,16,18-texaoxobisnaphtho[2,3-b:2,3-b']benzo-[1,2-e:4,5-e']bis[1,4]-thiin, were synthesized staring form 2,3-dichloro-...
