Traditional strengthening techniques on the surface layer are ball blasting and rolling. The traits of their deformation are facial plastic deformation, however they can not realize the directionally plastic deformation and control the transition of the microstructure on the surface of the billet.In this paper, the elementary research of the plastic deformation on the surface layer of the rectangular billet is mainly discussed,which aimed at concentrating the plastic deformation on the surface layer of the billet, while leaving a little bit deformation in the center of the billet. It results in the crystallization and refining of the grain on the surface, however, the inner structure is the original structure. Therefore, the compound structure is able to meet the demand of the engine blade on the high temperature creep and fatigue properties. We develop a new set of the experiment equipment for the surface layer of the rectangular billet based on the plasticity theory of the local load. Many experiments with aluminium, lead, steel and TiAl alloy have been done on the equipment. What's more, the forming processing is simulated with 3D-DEFORM.And the method of the lattice is also employed to measure the rule of the deformation distribution .Lastly, some research on the metallurgical structure and dislocation of the surface layer and central layer have been made, which prove the former experimental results.
