Mechanical alloying (MA) is a ball milling procedure where pure element powders or mixture powders are sealed in the ball mill and are subjected to high energy collision, milling from the balls and the ball and the veil. The solid state reaction takes place and results in the alloying in the final. This procedure is also called Mechanical Milling (MM) or Mechanical Grinding (MG).Up to now, MA is one of the most economic ways to manufacture materials among all the ways. Mechanical alloying has been applied to prepare dispersion strengthened materials, supersaturated solid solutions, intermetallic compounds , quasicrystalline materials , nanocrystalline materials, amorphous materials and functional materials such as magnetic materials and superconductor. This paper focus on studies of mechanical alloying of binary alloys Al-Ce and Ni-Ce by X-Ray diffraction (XRD) , scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and differential temperature analysis (DTA). During the ball milling of Al96Ce4 mixture powders, intermetallic compound Al4Ce formed with partially amorphous phase.
