The sustainable development of leather industry vitally depends on the continuous improvement of processing technology. Automatization, intelligentizing and economizing are the most important goals of the leather industry. Supported by the Technology Program of Zhejiang Province, this paper analyzes the existing advanced nesting technology, and comes up with the Algorithm of Heuristic Edge-matching. An intelligent nesting system has been designed basing on this algorithm, and the nesting results are displayed and compared. Finally, the function of the intelligent nesting system is assessed.Chapter 1, analyzes the background and significance of the intelligent nesting system, and introduces the basic conception and relevant problems. Finally, the modern nesting technologies of home and abroad are analyzed.Chapter 2, classifies the nesting problem in different aspects and points out that the leather nesting problem is one of the most difficult types. The special difficulty of the leather nesting has been analyzed. Basing on the conventional strategies, a conception of Heuristic Edge-matching is proposed.Chapter 3, analyzes the traditional rectangle envelope method, points out its deficiency, which will result in plenty of wastes. Therefore, the Graham's Scan Algorithm is proposed to solve this trouble. The convex hull yielded by this method is convenient for the expression of part's contour and the following nesting operation.Chapter 4, analyzes the features and puts forwards the nesting model based on the Algorithm of Heuristic Edge-matching, which contains the processions of contour-discretization, the merging of the parts, optimization of the matching edges, heuristic operation, collision testing, and the principle of termination. The concrete process and their mathematical descriptions are introduced.Chapter 5, the previous chapters have provided the mathematical model and nesting algorithm while this chapter will use them to realize the tangible function by programming in computer. Six modules, flow chart, data structure and the process details are introduced.Chapter 6, points out that the intelligent nesting system designed in this paper belongs to the numerical control system and takes an important part in it. The nesting results have been displayed and compared. Also the cutting results that processed by the computeric numerical control machine are shown. Finally, the results are assessed.Chapter 7, the study contents and conclusions of the dissertation are summarized, and the further research works are forecasted.
