With the development of surface amount technology(SMT), solder paste has become one of the most important electronic materials in electro-industry during assembling components. The thesis introduced the basic processes of surface mount technology and many basic knowledge about solder paste, such as conception, function, composition, flowing properties and smearing methods; and described the development and outlook of solder paste. Our scheme is to look for the new activator and developing the lead-free solder paste. This paper presented two parts of works. One part was the synthesis of the new activator of acrylic acid. The other was the solder paste development for surface mount technology (SMT).A kind of new activator was successfully invented, the paper has not only tested its basic properties, such as dissolution, but also identified its structure. At the mean time, compared to the traditional activator such as colophony and bi-hexylic acid. Its enlargability and corruption has been tested according to the GB/T 9491-2002 standard. The result shows that this new kind of activator has good enlargability, low corruption and good evaporation.A kind of solder paste material was successfully developed. A detailed rule for material selection of the compositional component-flux vehicle was put forward.
