Bone defects repair is a common orthopaedics clinic operation which needs cooperation among multi-subjects. Bone repair material, as a kind of indispensable part of operation, is correlative with the therapeutic effects. Since the bone repair operation came into being in the 18th century, bone repair materials have been developing and updating continually. In the process of development, metals, alloy, polymer, bioceramics, bioactive glasses, bone cement et al have been used in clinic application. Nearly every new material will be used in bone repair field experimentally. Until now, with the development of biotech, tissue engineering, nanotech, there is another trend of the research of bone repair materials.In the aspect of material science, nature bone is the composite system of nano-hydroxyapatie particles (nano-HAP) and collagen fibrils. This kind of organic/inorganic composition makes the nature bone have the rigidity as well sa elasticity. As a result, modern designs of bone repair material start off from the aspect of bionic, adopt the method of composite material, and choose appropriate organic and inorganic materials in order to prepare organic/inorganic composite material which is structurally similar to nature bone. The current researches mainly focus on two kinds of materials: one is nano- hydroxyapatie/polymer composite system, including nano- hydroxyapatie/collagen, nano- hydroxyapatie/polyamide; the other is composite calcium phosphate bone cement, including poly lactic acid/calcium phosphate bone cement, collagen/calcium phosphate bone cement et al. The advantage of nano- hydroxyapatie/polymer composite system is that it is extremely close to nature bone in both the structure and scale, but its molding technology limits that it should be molded in advance and needs secondary operation when used in clinic. Whereas the final hydrated product of composite calcium phosphate bone cement is also hydroxyapatie which can't reach nano-scale due to the limitation of its setting method. But it can be regulated into paste and directly injected into surgery position then solidified in vivo. We think the manipulation in clinic use is the key...
