The remediation of contaminated surface water is a widely concerned environmental topic in recent years. Sometimes the conventional techniques cannot work effectively restricted by the waters' particularities. Take NH4+-N in polluted waters for example. Nitrification, performed oxidationin of ammonia to nitrate by nitrifying bacteria is a key process in the cycling of nitrogen. But Chemolithoautotrophic nitrifying bacteria have many unfavorable physiological characteristics, namely, slow growth, small biomass and susceptible environment factors. We enrich nitrifying bacteria in enrichment culture media in order to increase NH4+-N removal efficiency. The technique of immobilized microbe, abbreviated IM, is becoming an important remediation method because of its significant advantages. It can not only provide a special microenvironment to protect dominant microbe from malignant competition of aboriginal microbe, but shield microbe from the environment. And it had many advantages such as high-density microorganism, strong capacity of anti-shock loading, which had overcome the deficiency of traditional remediation in a certain extent. The study was imbursed by the national tenth five magnitude project -- Suzhou City Water Environment Improvement and Synthesize Demonstration item. On the base of the formers' work and under the factual condition of polluted river of Suzhou ancient city district. We studied the purification effects and rules of immobilized microbe technology on polluted river water. Conclusions were summed up in the following:1) NH4+-N treatment effect of activated-sludge was better than that of sediment, and the time to achieve domestication of former was much shorter than the latter. But TN and TP treatment effect of sediment were better. NH4+-N treatment effect of the both can arrive upward 90% after domestication.2) The activation time of immobilized activated sludge was much shorter than that of immobilized sediment. After domestication the NH4+-N removal effect of immobilized globule granule was better than suspending microbe. At low...
