The new craft of smelting chrome iron by shaft furnace was performed by Bao steel. Its operating mode of hearth is different with blast furnace and electrical furnace. So far, nobody had ever finished the thorough research about it. Therefore the investigations on the refractory of the hearth have an important practical significance. In view of this, the present paper which was based on the existing refractory and contraposing the concrete influence of the new craft to heart refractory is to promulgate the erosion regularity of hearth refractory ,in order to choose a kind of refractory which is cheap while the quality is choiceness. Its main content includes the following two aspects:First, the theoretically research is necessary. According to the feasibility analysis and thermodynamics computation, we conclude as follows. This kind of refractory of the aluminum silicate and adamantine spar conforms to the operating mode of the hearth fundamentally. On the other hand ternary system and isothermal sectional view were applied as well as to carry on the comparative analysis among the BF slag, the electricity slag and the new craft slag .Thus,we determine the initial erosion degree of the new craft slag to this kind of refractory.Next, the experimental research should be arranged. According to resisting slag and melting iron erosion experiment, the erosion regularities were further promulgated about the change of the alkalinity and temperature of the slag. The experiments indicated that the resisting ability eroded and infiltrated by slag of the mullite brick and brown adamantine spar brick were stronger. According to the orthogonal test for the two kinds of bricks, the primary and secondary factor which influence erosion were determined. The erosion mechanisms of the new style slag to the refractory were opened out by the theoretically researching and the lithicfacies. Finally according to other performance synthesis comparisons, the mullite brick was determined as the refractory of the hearth. The carbon brick were builded outside the mullite brick ,then which formed the ceramic porcelain cup structure.The results have the certain guiding sense to choose the refractory of the hearth .
