Catalyzed aluminum inner electrolysis process (CAIE) is the development of catalyzed iron inner electrolysis process (CIIE), which performs poorly in alkalinous condition. The construction of mixing aluminum and copper strands together is used in the treatment of symbolic dye of reactive brilliant red X-3B (RBR), which fully utilizes the feature of aluminum acting with both acid and alkaline. The reaction features of this process are studied and applied to treat realistic industrial wastewater. Dynamic features are studied. The influencing factors such as reaction time, concentration of RBR, solution pH, temperature, electrolyte concentration and species, mass transfer conditions, dissolved oxygen and catalyst dosage are studied systematically to evaluate the effect on the reduction of RBR by CAIE process and seek the dependence of the reduction rate on them. Furthermore, the optimal performing condition is obtained. To study the mechanism of decolorizing in the CAIE process, the comparative experiment of adding EDTA to RBR wastewater was performed and the amount of reduction product of aniline was tested. It was found that the main mechanisms of decolorizing are the effect of flocculation and reduction and the effect of adsorption is simultaneous existed. The reduction product of aniline is affirmably existed, and other intermediate reduction product is potential existed, which is because of the complex structure of RBR and the complex reduction procedure. Galvanic couple corrosion of dual metals of aluminum and copper and the effect of corrosive pitting of aluminum are strengthened the effects of flocculation and reduction. To compare the CAIE process and CIIE process in same volume percent of filling materials, alkaline RBR wastewater was used. It was found that removal ratio of CAIE process is highly exceed CIIE process in the condition of strong alkalious wastewater, but the removal ratio is relatively the same in the condition of weakly alkalious wastewater. According to this feature, CAIE process was put in use of treating strong alkalious wastewater from printing and dyeing industry, and gained good treating effect.
