In this study, the high solvency of supercritical carbon dioxide of organic molecules and the ability of swelling polymer were taken advantage of to infuse functional metal into polymer to make functional polymeric materials. The polymer used was poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA).The dissertation includes two main parts. The first part is about the swelling of PMMA by supercritical carbon dioxide. In this part, sorption and desorption processes of supercritical carbon dioxide in PMMA at various temperatures and pressures were investigated systematically. The gravimetric method was used to study the desorption and sorption diffusivities. It was found that there existed a characteristic value of pressure in the sorption isotherm of PMMA, above which saturation was observed to increase more rapidly with pressure.
