Quantum dots (QDs) have been investigated as biological fluorescent probes because of their better spectral feature and inherent functional advantages. QDs have exhibited significant advantages over traditional fluorophores, overcoming a great deal of weak points of the traditional organic fluorescence dyestuffs to become the substituent. However, there are still plenty of problems in improving the photostability, water solubility and biocompatibility of QDs in biological applications. It is important to carry on overall research about QDs, so that this new-type fluorescence material could be utilized more effectively. Combining QDs with the magnetic nanoparticles can obtain novel multifunctional fluorescent magnetic nanocomposite materials, which will have wide applications. Just for this purpose the research of the preparation, decoration and bio-applications of water soluble QDs and fluorescent magnetic nanocomposite materials were made in this work.
