The clays with layer structure pillared with Ti or other metallic cations have been proved to be one of the most interesting materials at home and abroad. Pillared interlayer clay (PILC) possesses several interesting properties, such as large surface area, high themal stability, strong surface acidity etc. They are widely used in the fields such as catalysis, catalytic supports, selective sorbent, molecular screen and film for their good properties.TiO2-PILC has been prepared by sol-gel method. Hydrochloric acid contributed to catalysis and to stabilize the sol during hydrolytic polycondensation of titanium butyrate. Factors influencing TiO2-PILC photocatalystic properties were discussed, including the ratio of CH3COOH and Ti, the temperature and aging time of pillaring agents, pH value of reaction solution, the temperature of calcined, etc. Themorphology, grain size, crystalline phases, composition, microstructure and properties of TiO2 -PILC were characterized by TEM, XRD, FTIR, TG-DTA, Raman, etc.The experiment of photodegrade phenol by using TiO2 -PILC, Cr, Fe-doped TiO2-PILC as catalysts was carried out. The effect of initial concentration of phenol, pH value of initial solution and reaction time etc, on the reactivity was studied in detail. The results indicated that the initial reaction rate increased with the increase of initial concentration of phenol and pH value of the solution had obvious effects on the photodegradation reaction. The effect of pH on photodegradation efficiency by using TiO2 -PILC was consistent with the effect by using Fe doped TiO2-PILC; Luminous intensity had obvious effects on the photodegradation reation. And higher luminous intensity is favorable for the photodegradation reation. The crystalline phase of TiO2-PILC pressured at 3.5Mpa was mature and which have a good performance for photodegradation.
