Water was widely applied in absorption of tail gas containing hydrogen chloride (HCl), which was one of the most important environmental contaminant in pharmaceutical and chemical industry. Gas absorption was usually featured with several columns in series during a successive process. However, the research on absorption of HCl tail gas emitted intermittently was greatly insufficient.Aiming at characters of HCl tail gas emitted intermittently in industrial process, batch absorption process of two-section column was improved. A single column was divided into two sections and the upper section was absorption by water to ensure the emission of HCl meets environment standard. And in the lower section of the column, dilute hydrochloric acid was recycled at a large flow rate as the absorbent. Compared with former equipment, the new one had simpler equipment and can save cost.Firstly, this paper determined experimental conditions and process, and studied hollow tower velocity and liquid spray amount of two-section absorption column to make sure effective absorption. And appropriate operation range had been determinate. In addition, rational operation and control method was found according to factors related with product concentration.Due to the difference of industrial process and lab conditions of two-section batch absorption process, factors including temperature of absorption solvent, liquid spray amount and weight concentration of cyclic spray liquid were systematically studied. The results in industrial equipment were consistent with results in lab.In order to further study batch absorption process of HCl tail gas emitted intermittently in theory, this paper set up the models of two-section batch absorption process. The mathematical model of lower section of cyclic absorption process was solved by the way of numerical integration. And the upper section was solved by the way of graphic calculation. Experimental results were in good agreement with simulation results.
