With the development of technology, a new and advanced welding method named laser welding came out in 20th century. It has more merits than the conventional welding methods, such as the faster welding speed, the smaller distortion after welding and the deeper penetration etc. However it can not be widely used owing to the excessive cost of laser producing, the smaller fitting tolerance when but welding and poor welding efficiencies. In order to employ the laser welding more widely used in industry fields, W. Steen who was a famous English welding experts invented the laser-arc hybrid welding process in 1970s. Because of many merits of this welding method, it was very noticed by welding experts from many countries. After that, many types of hybrid welding were development and they can all improve the welding qualities and efficiencies compared with the laser welding.Laser-arc hybrid welding is a new developing welding technology, which combines the high power density of lasers with the cheapness and high efficiency of the arc welding to achieve deeper welding penetration and good adaptability. Laser-Arc hybrid welding technology has been well developed abroad, but is still at the stage of fundamental research in our country. In this paper, we aim to the researches on the laser-arc hybrid welding arts and the interaction of laser beam with arc plasma. In our experiments, a MAG arc welding apparatus was chosen for combination with a CO2 laser, and 616 armour steels sheets with 7mm in thickness were used as welding materials. Besides, the welding conditions at different parameters were studied systematically. The experimental results indicate that the introduced MAG arc obviously helps to increase the welding penetration and welding fusion extent. Laser power, arc current, welding speed and defocusing are main influence factors in hybrid welding process. Maximum welding penetration can be gotten when arc current matches with the laser power properly, when laser power varies in the...
