The woodworks bonded by phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resin are durable to boiling water and bad weather, and they have high bonding strength, but the PF resin needs high curing temperature and long curing time, and it is high cost. So it is not good for panel manufacture and restrain it's widely use. For this reason, it is important to reduce the cost and to improve the production, to impel the development of wood Industry. Meanwhile it is very useful to prolong the longevity of woodwork and to save the resource of forestry.This paper studies the composition of the catalyst and the process of the PF resin. The whole research includes:(1) Carbonate salts added in catalyst of the PF resin,(2) Metalline oxides added in catalyst of the PF resin:①To make PF resin and test the property of resin, such as solid content, curing time, viscosity of resin, content of free formaldehyde, and the curing process of PF resin using DSC.② To make veneer and test the property of veneer, such as bond strength, and the emission of free formaldehyde.The results of the study include:(1) The fast curing PF resin can be produced using carbonate salts as acatalyst.(2) The metalline oxides as catalysts can be used to make innoxious and fast curing PF resin. Especially, the MgO can reduce the hot-press temperature to 110℃.(3) Little Urea added to PF resin can increase the solid content and fluidity.(4) The curves of DSC illustrate the new PF resin need lower hot-press temperature.(5) The plywood bonded by the PF resin using carbonate salts and MgO as catalyst can meet the E1 plywood requirements.
