Three new kinds of chitosan derivatives, 1, 3, 5-thiadiazine-2-thione derivatives of chitosan oligomers (SATTCS, TITTCS and CITTCS), schiff bases of hydroxypropyl chitosan (HHPCS, HCHPCS, HNHPCS, HBHPCS and FHPCS) and acetyl arylamine derivatives of chitosan (ABCS, ACCS, TDCS, LMANCS and MDACS) were obtained. Their structures were characterized by IR spectroscopy and elemental analyses and their antibacterial activity and antioxidant activity were also studied in this paper.The inhibition effects of the derivarives on Staphylococcus aureus, Sarcina, Echerichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were studied. The results showed that 1, 3, 5-thiadiazine-2-thione chitosan derivatives (TDTC) and acetyl arylamine derivatives of chitosan had antibacterial activities. With different molecular weight, these derivatives had different activities. Moreover, SATTCS and LMANCS had obvious antibacterial activities.Antioxidant activities of chitosan derivatives showed that TDTC and Schiff bases of HPCS had strong scavenging activity toward hydroxyl radicals and TDTC had efficiently reducing power. Scavenging effect of TDTC and Schiff bases of HPCS on hydroxyl radicals were stronger than Vc and reducing power of TITTCS were stronger than Vc. Moreover, antioxidant activity of low molecular weight TDTC were stronger than that of high molecular weight derivatives.This work had prepared three new kinds of chitosan derivatives; the research of biological activities showed TDTC and acetyl arylamine derivatives of chitosan have potential use in antimicrobial. It is very important to furtherly develop and make use of chitin resources.
