Horizontal continuous casting is considered as a remarkable technology for the advantages such as simple facilities. In recent years, with the development of information industry, the needs of high quality fine wire bonding for electronic packaging increase quickly. To meet the succedent procedure, wire rods free from defects are needed, which is the key to improve production efficiency and obtain high-quality bonding wire. Nowadays, external fields such as ultrasonic field and electromagnetic field are successfully applied in metallurgy and material processing, which provides a chance to produce high quality wire rods. The purpose of the dissertation is to produce high quality Al-1%Si wire rods. The research is mainly supported by the National Natural Science Fundation which number is 50474055. The main results are as follows:A novel process of power ultrasonic is proposed to improve the quality of horizontal continuously cast Al-1%Si alloy. Experimental apparatus is designed and horizontal continuous casting of Al-1%Si wire rods is conducted to investigate the effects of ultrasonic field on the surface quality, solidification structures and mechanical properties of Al-1%Si alloy. The results show that the uniformity of melt temperature and surface quality of wire rods are enhanced with the application of power ultrasonic. Moreover, grains are refined and the tensile properties of the alloy are evidently increased with the increase of ultrasonic power. The influence of power ultrasonic on solute segregation of Al-Si alloy is discussed. Experimental results show that under power ultrasonic the uniformity of the distribution of Si in a (Al) is improved and the solute segregation is suppressed. The effect of power ultrasonic on restraining solute segregation in Al-1%Si alloy ingot by horizontal continuous casting is explained from such factors as the diffusion of solute, solidification interval, solidifying front shape, temperature field, flow pattern and microstructure.Horizontal electromagnetic continuous casting of Al-1%Si alloy ingot is proposed. The electromagnetic shaping system is designed and horizontal electromagnetic continuous casting wire rods are carried. Effect of commercial frequency electromagnetic field on surface quality, solidification structure, mechanical properties and solute segregation of wire rods is investigated. The results show that surface quality can be improved by the application of...
