Sulfur Condenser is of great importance in petrochemical industry, which is applied to refrigerate the sulfur gas in sulfur recovery units. For the sake of economy and safety, it is necessary to give a full analysis of the Temp field and Stress field in sulfur condenser.Sulfur condenser is a sort of fixed tube-sheet heat exchanger. Considering the complex construction and the large dimension, the finite element model is too large and the matrix formed is too complicated to calculate on PC equipment by using the solid elements. An improved finite element model of sulfur condenser is established by taking use of the solid, shell and beam structure elements provided in the ANSYS code. Inside the thermal influence district, solid element is used in the modeling, while outside the district the simplified elements (shell, beam) are put to use. Thermal solid element is SOLID70; Structural elements are SOLID45, SHELL67 and BEAM188. The load transmission and distortion between different elements are achieved by applying the MPC (multiple points contact) and SHSD (shell-solid assembly) technique. TAEGE170, CONTA173 and CONTA175 contact elements are required in MPC and SHSD connections to establish contact relationship.Based on the calculation, the Temperature and Stress fields of sulfur condenser are obtained. Moreover, the Temperature and Stress distribution is discussed through path operation to give an analysis of the characteristics of Temperature and Stress fields of sulfur condenser.
