Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is a new kind of radical polymerization method.It can make the polymerization react under control. Thus, the polymer with fixed molecular weight and low poly diversity can be prepared by ATRP. Using ATRP method we also synthesize many kinds of polymers such as block, star, graft, hyper branched (multifunctional) copolymers, inorganic / organic hybrid materials and gradient copolymer etc. In view of coating,The performance of coating is closely related to the molecular weight and poly diversity of its resin .So, it is a new field to synthesize coating resin by ATRP. This paper does some research in synthesizing poly-acrylate in emulsion by ATRP. Two kinds of poly-acrylate have been prepared. One is the linear type,the other is core-shell type.At the same time, compound material has been prepared by adding a little polyaniline (PANI ) to the linear poly-acrylate solution.The three kinds of material have been used as film material of coating and the characterization of coating made by them has been studied .This main content and conclusion in thisthesis are divided into following parts:1.The influence of the factors such as emulsifying agent, initiation agent, temperature to the reaction and product has been studied by some orthogonal design experiments and parallel experiments.The best reaction condition was found. IR test has proved the structure of polymer. GPC test has proved the high molecular weight and low poly diversity of the polymer, which is the remarkable characterization of ATRP.2.The core-shell poly-acrylate are prepared by using hard monomer -MMA as shell and soft monomer-BMA as core by ATRP. Radius distribution test and TEM have proved the core-shell structure.The film which is formed by core-shell poly-acrylate solution has better stain resistance and lower the lowest forming film temperature than the film formed by common poly-acrylate solution. Furthermore this kind of coating has good light transmittance, it may become a new type of wall surface coating.3.The compound material are prepared by mixing the linear poly-acrylate and PANI. The coating film formed by this compound material solution has high electric performance, good light transmittance and water resistance.It can become a kind of coating which is used as both bottom coating and surface coating.
