2-ethoxyethyl acetate(EGEA) was synthesized from 2-ethoxyethanol and acetic acid over the solid superacid SO42-/TiO2-ZrO2. The catalytic activity of the catalysts towards synthesizing EGEA and the optimum reaction conditions were studied, and the catalysts were characterized by XRD, BET, IR, NH3-TPD, TG and EDS. Furthermore, the system which contains high-2-ethoxyehtyl acetate was simulated by using CHEMCAD simulation software. Besides, engineering flow sheet was designed, and major equipments were calculated.Firstly, synthesis of EGEA from 2-ethoxyethanol and acetic acid over the solid acid SO42-/TiO2- ZrO2 was studied. The preparation conditions such as mole ratio of Ti/ Zr, concentration of H2SO4 and calcinations temperature have great influence on catalytic activity of SO42-/TiO2- ZrO2. The optimum preparation conditions are: mole ration of Ti/ Zr 1:0.3, concentration of H2SO4 0.5mol·L-1, calcinations temperature 500℃. By orthogonal design, optimum reaction conditions were obtained. The optimum reaction conditions are: amount of catalyst 2% (relative to the weight of acetic acid), reaction time 20.5h, and mole ratio of 2-ethoxyethanol to acetic acid 1.46:1. Under the optimum conditions, the conversion of the acetic acid is up to 99.9%. The use life of catalyst was studied. After being used four times, the catalytic activity reduces to 98.1%. It is found that crystallization of TiO2 is hold back with the addition of Zr from the XRD pattern. It was found organic sulfates SO42- predominated on catalyst surface from IR pattern. The surface areas of catalysts were studied. The results show that SO42-/TiO2-Zr have more surface areas than SO42-/TiO2. It is found from the TG that the SO42- in SO42-/TiO2-ZrO2 begin to decompose at higher temperature than that of SO42-/TiO2 samples, and that the sample containing Zr retained higher amount of sulfur than the sample not containing Zr. NH3-TPD pattern showed that both the strength and the acid amount were increased with the addition of 23.1%(mole fraction) Zr.The system which contains high-2ethoxyethyl acetate was simulated by...
