SH is the resin of the Liquidambar orientalis Mill., an important genus of Family Hamamelaceae. It is a kind of ordinary Chinese traditional medicine that used for cardiovascular disease. SH is a sort of sticky liquid and possess volatility components. Not only the preparation procedure becomes difficult owing to its character but also the volatility components are easy to volatilize during storage. In this study, we made the preparation of SH powder with the EL100 ( Polyacrylic Resinâ…¡) by solvent evaporation for improving the pharmaceutical applicability and the stability of storage. This method can preserve the original composition of the SH furthest. The result of the TLC revealed that the cinnamic acid, the main effective component of the SH, is unchanged. Furthermore, this study established methods of assay and in vitro dissolution experiments. The percent dose released at 120 min in 0.1mol/L HCl is 4.23% and accumulated dissolution rate in pH6.8 phosphate buffer at 90 min is above 70%. In order to study the stability of the volatility components in powder, we design a new method called"modified head-space GC"and make researches of its methodology. studying revealed, it has excellent precision and repeatability. In this study, we determined and compared the evaporation rate of essential oil in powder, physical mixture and SH itself, styrene is regarded as the representation of the essential oil. Result show that the styrene in powder evaporate slower than that of the other two obviously. In addition, we carried the accelerated stability experiment for two month. The result indicates that the test condition can not influence the composition of the SH, but high temperature and humidity can change the dissolution character of the powder through alter its inner structure. The result of the assay test can be decreased due to water uptake.
