In the modern chemical heat treatment, computer control is widely applied to increase the quality of products, reduce the energy consumption and improve the efficiency of production. In the present research situation of theories, lots of typical models are described in details. In the chemical heat treatment because the elements are into the formation and diffuse in it. So the relevant diffusion must be researched for the typical models.Ion nitiding is well-known surface modification technique extensively used in the modern industries to enhance the mechanical properties of nitrogen layer, shorten the period of production, reduce the formation of workpiece etc. Plasma nitriding process has been applied commercially for about two decades mainly to increase surface hardness and to improve the wear and fatigue resistance of stainless steel. On the other hand ion nitriding using plasma is a much more improved method of uptake nitrogen into the thickness. The diffusion of nitrogen decides the component of nitrogen layer. So I is necessary for us to establish ion nitriding model, the diffusion of nitrogen in the layer. As mentioned above, firstly carries out the introduction for the relevant theories of ion nitiding and the characteristic of ion nitiding, and then reports the model of ion nitiding. The contents are as follows.1. Using the second law of Fick to deduce to the model of ion nitiding.2. Using the model of ion-nitriding for stainless steel to deduce to the model of diffusion. Diffusion coefficient of nitrogen atom in the diffusion affects the diffusion of nitrogen atom in layer. From the second law of Fick, there are two important factors of diffusion coefficient and concentration gradient to affect the diffusion rate of nitrogen atom.
