The technology of electroplating Al-Co alloy in molten salt was researched in this paper. The electroplating Al-Co alloy prescription of salt bath, the influence of technique parameters on the thickness of plating layer, surface morphology, phase composition, corrosion resistance as well as hardness in molten salt on Q235 steel has been systematically studied using scanning electronic microscope, X-ray diffract meter, anodic polarization curve and micro hardness tester; the mechanism of deposition process of Al-Co alloy on steel and copper electrode was researched by Cyclic Voltammetry curves; the influence of additives of Nd and Ce chloride to the composition, performance and mechanism of deposition process were investigated also. The experiment results have shown that Al-Co alloy can deposit from AlCl3-NaCl-KCl-CoCl2 molten salt system; technology parameters such as salt bath, duration electroplating time, electroplating temperature, cathode current density could effect the performance of alloy-coating; the addition of Co chloride could improve the surface morphology of alloy-coating, improve the formation of al-co intermetallics; enhance the corrosion resistance, the hardness of alloy-coating was enhanced 1/4 as high as the pure al; the process of al-co alloy deposit on steel and copper base were three-step and two-step respectively. The quality of Al-Co alloys coating was improved with the additives of Nd and Ce chloride, promote the formation of alloy phase; the corrosion resistance of coating was enhanced further, and to increase the hardness of the coating from 124 MPa to 139 MPa and 152 MPa respectively. After adding nd chloride, the process of coating deposition on steel and copper were changed to three-step and single-step. It was changed to two-step after adding ce chloride.
