Referring to the international research progress of restoration for the urban river water ecology, the origins and various solutions for these problems have been compared and analyzed. Different from the classical river treatment, the ecological engineering theory is applied to the treating of Weihe River in Baoji. According to river's the service functions of flood protection safety, ecological safety and ecological system and the multiobjective planning principle, the theory system and methods for the treatment of rivers and lakes ecology in Baoji City is discussed and the optimum treating method, scientific appropriate treating pattern, flood resources utilization of storage areas, Wei River water pollution treating technological itinerary and safety water supply system construction are researched, based on the profound learning and analyzing of the theory of the river ecological system, the retrospective generalizing of the relative research all over the world and drawing lessons from the successful experience of river ecology treating, to realize the integral optimum combination of flood protection, environmental protection, landscape and ecology and multiple safety targets so to gain multiobjective efficiency such as water control, environmental protection, ecology, amusement and so on.First starting from the standpoint of sustainable development, the urban river and the city are considered as a whole body combined with the application of the Wei River treating engineering in Baoji City, and the experiment research on the river water's purification effect by using the method of riparian reed zone and wet land is done to discussed the feasibility of using fountain aeration to improve the water quality. And the ecological river requirement in Baoji City is systematically analyzed and studied.Secondly according to different management object, different damage factor, different damaged intensity, and the river's function character, and combined with the hydrologic data of urban rivers and to choose suiTab mode to calculate rational ecological water requirement in Baoji city. According to the experiment effect and the improvement, the feasibility of Weihe River reach's ecological restoration in Baoji City is demonstrated.Last combined with the local river's treating work and construction in Baoji City, the concept and method for ecological river is further discussed. And the fundamental mode based on ecology concept for the urban river district is constructed, which is different from the old one focusing on the society and economy. The new constructed mode which is discussed and studied from multiple aspects such as ecological restoration, literae humaniores and so on is expected to have advantage fore more effectively protecting and more appropriate utilizing urban river. This research, based on the accomplishment of the ecological treatment project of Weihe River in Baoji City and the elementary research on the ecological river mode, will supply experience to other urban river treating engineering and change the thinking manner of the river treating engineering. And it also has important referenced value for the construction of sustainable developed ecological urban river system and the layout of society-economy-ecology multiple landscape cities.
