Now corrosion inhibitors develop to be low toxic and friendly to environment. OP-10 (dodecane phenol plyoxyethylene) and KI (potassium iodide) is nontoxic corrosion inhibitor. The research into the effect of their inhibition efficiency and synergism is rarely reported on steel in hydrochloric acid. In this paper we discussed the corrosion inhibition ability of OP-10 and KI to A3 steel in HCl with weight loss method and electrochemical technique. The synergistic effects of them were also studied through methods mentioned above. The corrosion morphologies were characterized by SEM.Some results obtained from the experiments were given in the thesis. The inhibition efficiencies of single OP-10 and KI increase with the increase of density. The OP-10 and KI maximum value of the corrosion inhibition efficiency in this paper is 57% and 75%, which is not good enough for using. The inhibition efficiency increase after the match OP-10 with KI, and the maximum value of corrosion efficiency achieves 97%. The synergistic effects of complex of them is stable, not affected much by temperature.The OP-10 and KI is deviated langmiur isotherm, but their complex follows langmiur isotherm in hydrochloric acid. The apparent activation energy of OP-10 and KI complex is bigger than of single of them.The adsorption energy of KI on A3 steel is -10.8kJ/mol, which is mainly physical adsorption. The adsorption energy of OP-10 is -39kJ/mol, which is mainly chemical adsorption. The adsorption energy of their complex is -43kJ/mol, which is mainly chemical adsorption.The complex of OP-10 and KI and single of them can inhibitate reaction of cathode and anode. ,but the inhibition of anode is primary. The complex of OP-10 and KI has synergistic effects on both cathode and anode.The outer layer of the protective film formed by complex of OP-10 and KI is more compacted and thicker than the layer formed by single of them.The study proves that: as a secure and nontoxic inhibitor, complex of OP-10 and KI has a good synergistic effect. It is likely to replace the traditional corrosion inhibitor that is poisonous in hydrochloric acid. Some parameters obtained from the experiment will provide.
