Based on the experimental research of 21 sediment samples from seven rivers of the AnHui section in Huaihe river basin, such as Huaihe river, Yinghe river, Xifeihe river, Cihuaixinhe river, Guohe river, Pihe river, Dongfeihe river, the content data of 10 heavy metals including Be, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Ni, Mn, Ba, Tl and Zn were obtained. Made use of these data, concentration state and distribution characteristics of heavy metals in sediments were analyzed. Moreover, correlation matter on heavy metal concentration and sediment nature were studied with physicochemical properties of the sediments, which are pH, organic carbon, grain size, clay mineral. In addition, pollution state of heavy metals in sediments from the AnHui section of the Huaihe river basin was assessed applied with average enrichment factors and index of geo-accumulation.The research results showed as follows: (l)The order of average content of heavy metals in sediments from the AnHui section of the Huaihe river basin was Mn>Ba> Zn>Cr>Pb>Cu>Ni>Be>Tl>Cd. Compared with the average value of heavy metal content in sediment in China, some heavy metals in research district appeared different degree enrichment. Especially, the enrichment position of heavy metals in sediments from the Xifeihe river and Pihe river seemed the more evident. (2)It was the feeble alkalinity in sediments of the research area, and were priority to the slender particals. The contents of organic carbon were decreased little by little from the upper reaches to the lower of all the rivers (except Huaihe). The samples were mainly composed of quartzes, feldspars, clay minerals, and carbonates. (3)Some heavy metals distribution were being in the regulation, and were affected on some factors, such as physical-chemical properties of the sediments, industrial and agricultural production, soil parent materials of being sediments, hydrodynamic condition, and so on. Some correlation matters of heavy metals in sediments from the research area were existence. (4)Some heavy metals (such as Mn and Cd) were existed in sediments for weak acid exatration and crystallization, and Ba for crystallization, Pb for reduction state and crystallization. (5)The pollution of heavy metals was comparatively light in sediments from the AnHui section of the Huaihe river basin, and only four rivers existed contaminating, such as Xifeihe river, Cihuaixinhe river Guohe river and Pihe river. The pollution of Cd, Pb, Mn and Ba, especially Cd, were universally existence in the four rivers sediments.
