The coordination compounds, synthesized with rare earth metal and amino acid Schiff-bases as raw materials, are more and more important for their various structures and extensive uses. The applied foreground of these compounds is extensive in the field of analysis, bio-activity and materials etc.Taurine, a non-protein amino acid containing sulfur, is indispensable to human beings and animals. It has been widely used in medicine, food and chemical industry because of its'unique medical and physiological effects. Schiff base complexes containing sulfur and amino acid have become the hotspot of research in recent years due to their bio-activities, such as antiviral antibacterial activities and catalyticactivities. In this paper, by optimizing the synthetic method, we gain 2-acetylbenzimidazole. The new schiff base compound derived from this precursor and taurine was synthesized and characterized by element analysis, 1HNMR spectra, IR spectra, laser Raman spectra. The ten rare earth complexes (RE=La,Ce,Pr,Nd,Sm,Eu,Gd,Tb,Dy,Y) are synthesized by reaction of new Schiff base ligand and rare earth nitrate in methyl alcohol solution. These new complexes are determined by chemical analysis, IR spectra and Mass spectrometry, the properties of these complexes are forecasted by experimental facts.Continuous heating model of micro-DSCⅢ(SETARAM, FRANCE) which has high precision and sensitivity was adopted. Principle and experimental process to determine the continuous heat capacity of compound were introduced. Continuous specific heat capacities from 283K to 344K of a standard sample (α-Al2O3) were messured by diferential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method, and differences between their calculated values and their literature values were less than 0.53%. Accordingly, the continuous heat capacity from 283K to 344K of this series of title complexes samples were also gained by the same method, and specific heat capacities of title complexes were studied. Furthermore, the specific heat capacities obtained by experiments are a veriable tempreture equation, and it is easier to deduce the specific heat capacity in a certain tempreture from the equation. The three-dimension fluorescene excitation and emission spectra of these new rare earth complexes were determined from 200nm to 900nm, excited by the Xenon lamp. The experiment results showed these complexes which were formed by Schiff base ligand and rare earth ions can improve enormously ligandal photoluminescence ability. We also compared these different rare earth ions which influence the photoluminescence ability of ligand, and discussed the photoluminescence mechanism and their up-conversion fluorescence phenomenon of rare earth ions in the complex.
