Ring-banded spherulites with structural discontinuity in different crystalline/crystalline and crystalline/non-crystalline polymer blends have been investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized light microscopy (PLM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) techniques. Influencing factors (including miscibility, composition, competition between crystallization rate and phase separation rate and crystallization conditions) for the generation and development of the ring-banded spherulites have been discussed. In addition, the development process, phase structure and composition of the ring-banded structures have been studied. The results indicate that the formation of the ring-banded spherulites in different blends is attributable to structural discontinuity caused by a rhythmic radial growth process. This work provided further experimental evidence for the universality of the ring-banded spherulites with structural discontinuity. Conclusions presented in this thesis can be summarized as follows:- The formation of the ring-banded spherulites in different crystalline/crystalline and crystalline/non-crystalline polymer blends is attributable to structural discontinuity caused by a rhythmic radial growth.- The formation of the ring-banded spherulites with structural discontinuity in polymer blends is dependent on composition, miscibility, competition between crystallization rate and phase separation rate, cooling rate and crystallization temperature. The crystallization conditions (including cooling rate and isothermal crystallization temperature) have significant effect on formation of the ring-banded spherulites with structural discontinuity.- The complicated phase behavior of the polymer blends is strongly dependent on the composition of the blends.
