The reaction of the linked bis(β-ketimine)R2[NHC(CH3) CHC(R1) O]2(R1=Ph, R2=1,3-(CH2) 3, 1; R1=CH3, R2=1,2-(CH2) 2, 2) with 3 equiv of AlEt3 gave bimetallic diethylaluminum complexes R2[{NC(CH3) CHC(R1) O}Al(CH2CH3) ]2 (R1=Ph, R2=1,3-(CH2) 3, 3;R1=CH3,R2=1,2-(CH2) 2, 4) . The reaction of the ligand PhC(O)CHC(CH3) NH(o-C6H4OH) (5) with excess AlMe3 in refluxing toluene for 2 h resulted in complex PhC(O)CHC(CH3) N(o-C6H4O)AlMe (6) . Compounds 3 and 6 are active for initiating the ring-opening polymerization ofε-caprolactone. In addition, a zinc complex [{(2,6-iPr2C6H3) N(Me)C}2CH]ZnI(THF7) (7) was synthesized by the reaction of the complex [{(2,6-iPr2C6H3) N(Me)C}2CH]ZnEt and 1 equiv of iodine in a mixture of toluene and THF at room temperature. The molecular structures of 3 and 7 were determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis.
