Interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) based on Acrylic resins(PA)/ Unsaturated polyester resin (UP) were prepared by the sequential technique. The two homopolymers and the IPNs were charactized by infrared spectra. The effects of the component ratio, initiator quantity and crosslinder quantity on the solvent resistance of PA/UP IPNs were studied. Glass transition temperature of the IPNs was measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results revealed there is a single glass transition temperature (Tg) for the full-IPNs, which suggests good interpenetration of the two networks in them. It can be seen from scanning electron micrography that the system was heterogeneous.A series of acrylic resins was synthesized by means of solution free radical polymerization, and was studied effects of various factors on the properties of the resins by using methyl methacrylate(MMA), butyl acrylate(BA) and hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA) as raw materials, BPO as initiator, dimethylbenzene and ethyl acetate as solvent, in various conditions, such as amounts of initiator, HEMA and crosslinker. Fourier transformation infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) were used for studying the structure, thermal stability and the glass transition temperature of the acrylic polymer characterizing.The unsaturated polyester resin is prepared by direct esterification with o-phthalic acid, ethenedial, funmaric acid as raw materials. The conditions of synthesis reaction are discussed. The properties of film were tested, a series of unsaturated polyester resins were synthesized, and were studied in various conditions, such as amounts of initiators, styrene and crosslinker. Study indicated the unsaturated polyester using the butanediol have good waterproof and antiorganic.
